With the Xiamen 2011 Marathon less than two weeks away, we here at Xiamen Wave wanted to give everyone an update as to Ewa Walter’s progress in raising money for the “Run for Their Fun” charity drive we reported on in the November edition of our magazine (“Run for Their Fun” Original Article). We are happy to report that Ewa has made phenomenal progress not only in training but in raising money for these special children.
So far over 140 people have pledged Ewa money and she is expecting more to come in the remaining few days. All of the workers at the Huisman workshop are currently collecting money as well, while other friends and supporters are still helping to raise money and are preparing cheering teams for the big day.
Until now, the 140 confirmed pledges have totaled 57,662.50 RMB. In addition to this amount, other people have promised to provide Ewa with a bonus (in total 11,500 RMB) if she finishes the marathon within 4 hours and 30 minutes. Famous Xiamen cook Peter Zobrist of Xiamen Sheraton Hotel has also promised to cook one day for the children at the school if she finishes the marathon within this prescribed time limit.

As previously mentioned in the original article, Huisman has already promised to double the money raised, possibly resulting in close to or over 150,000 RMB for the cause (as current figures stand). Ewa adds that she is “…touched by the generosity and support of everybody; the Xiamen expatriate society, my colleagues, my Chinese golfing friends and all my friends back home!”
Everyone here at Xiamen Wave is rooting for you and wishes you the best Ewa!
